The third of March was International Sex Workers Rights Day. The day started in 2001 when over 25,000 sex workers in India gathered for a sex workers festival.
This blog is about the Red Light District in Calcutta, India. Last year I saw a film in my Human Resources & Film class titled Born into Brothels.
The film was really interesting and it highlighted the poverty and lives of sex workers, while focusing on their children and how to give them a brighter future beyond the brothels.
The film really opened my eyes to issues beyond the U.S. and it showed just how important media is when utilized effectively. It can make a world of difference!
Therefore, I hope to use this blog to spread even more light on the red light districts of India and give a voice to the silent. Thank you Professor Helena Sarkio!!!
